Fill The Fridge

Again, let’s set ourselves up for success. Stack the deck in our favor. Fill the fridge with the following:

Dressings

This is a HUGE trap area and one that you should look out for in your journey. There are way more dressings that are bad for you than good. In the craze of the “low fat” and “fat free” days dressings were loaded with sugar to make up for the taste that was lost in fats. There’s a reason sour cream taste so delicious! It’s fat. We now know the rights fats are not only beneficial, but essential to a healthy body.

So read your labels carefully. This is by no means a comprehensive list, just the ones we like and find at our local stores.

Newman’s Own Classic Oil & Vinegar - A great, tasty, inexpensive and easily available choice. It tends to firm up in the fridge, so we leave it out at room temp.

Primal Kitchen - The Keto craze has helped bring better dressings to the grocery stores. Primal offers several tasty ones with no sugar and made with avocado oil. They are a bit pricey, but you are totally worth it. We like the Buffalo Ranch and the Green Goddess. You can shop it on their website as well and get a 20% new customer discount.

Tessemae’s- A little harder to find, but very tasty. Similar to Primal’s offerings but a bit thinner and lighter.

Sour Cream

This wonderful, creamy ingredient will indulge you with a healthy flavor and add a great taste to your favorite foods. We keep it in the fridge at all times. Here are a few ways to use it.

Hamburgers- Instead of mayo, we use it mixed with some salsa

Potatoes- taste amazing on a baked potato. No need for butter.

Veggie Dip- Mix it with some Fox Point Seasoning and make an amazing dip for fresh veggies.

Yogurt

Always have a few tubs on hand. We keep one Greek, one regular, both full fat (whole milk). This is a great way to feel satisfied and get our healthy fats in.

We love the tangier European/Australian versions as well as the Skyr versions for a little variety. Brands usually vary by locations, but a few that we like are: Wallaby, Noosa Plain (if you can find it), and Icelandic Provisions. Don’t let the brand guide you too much as they vary by local dairy providers in you area.

Salsa

Salsa has become an every day staple at our table. We place it on the table at every meal, right next to the sour cream. We put it on potatoes, eggs, hamburgers, rice, you name it.

Our recipe [INSERT RECIPE LINK] uses roasting to bring out the flavor in the vegetables and the sweetness of the tomatoes.

Fresh Fruit

Always ready and on the go for q quick snack. Some have a short shelf life. We like to place those in front in the fridge so that we eat them first.

Blueberries- great with yogurt and by themselves. Of all the berries, they see to last the longest.

Blackberries- love the flavor and texture. Last way longer than their cousins the raspberries.

Oranges- last forever and are super portable. We love the Cara Cara’s and the Sumo Mandarins when in season. These are typically more expensive, but again, you are worth it. You know what’s expensive too? Junk food and fast food, and we never had a problem squeezing those into our budget.

Apples- not our favorite, but they are easy to carry and last forever in the fridge.

Peaches/Tangerines- buy them firm, and put them in a sealed paper bag to ripen at home. When soft to the touch, they are ready. Amazingly sweet and juicy. Great frozen and grated on top of yogurt too!

Cheese

A great way to get our fat/protein in on the go. Great for a snack too. We always have the following:

String Cheese- portable, good for you, good portion size. We prefer ours a little room temp so it is extra stringy!

Smoked String Cheese- string cheese’s sexy cousin. We get ours at Whole Foods in the deli section. If you haven’t tried it, indulge yourself.

Babybel- another great travel cheese. The portion is a bit small, but you cannot beat the portability on this one. Comes in several flavors, but we always seem to flock to the red ones.
